What food am I allowed to, or specifically not allowed to, take into Mauritius?

Plants and plant materials including cuttings, flowers, bulbs, fresh fruits, vegetables and seeds require a Plant Import Permit from the Ministry of Agriculture before you travel.
All animals including animal products require an Import Permit from the Ministry of Agriculture and a Sanitary Certificate from the country of origin.
You will have to declare everything to customs when you land and unnfortunately there's not a list of typical food that you can bring to Mauritius but just the above as a general guideline which comes from the official Mauritius Government website : http://www.gov.mu/portal/site/Noncitizen...
Try to categorise what food you're intending to bring with you using the guideline above and if you're not sure or want reassurance, you might want to contact the Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority (MTPA) on this number : +230 210 1545
Why would anyone want to bring fresh fruits or vegetables anyway? You get them all in Mauritius, right?
I would like to take a french family a small assortment of english cheeses. Can I bring them into Mauritius
