I was needing a new laptop because my old Fujitsu one just got out of use. My situation was at a very desperate one; lots of work to be submitted in a short time period & without my useful tool; my notebook.

Luckily while reading the newspapers i came with a splendid occasion on 'DELL' branded laptops at frankly superb low prices. At first sight i was a bit afraid due to the prices proposed on the advert but after looking down a my desperate situation i was convinced that this was my ultimate solution to solve my problem rapidly.

Without delay, i went on & bought a brand new laptop. How happy i was, then a friend of mind ask me about the warranty of the laptop.
As mentioned on the advert i told him 5 years; he added are you sure? I was doubtful on this particular characteristic. I phone there and they told me '5years parts and labor'. I was very relief and immediately call my friend to tell him about the warranty. Meanwhile the later has call some friends of him to get more information about DELL warranty verification; he has got a link where he told me to put my 'SERVICE TAG' then i'll get the right warranty period/duration whatever it is called.
The link 'dellservicetag.com'.

I got the most unpleasant surprised of my life:-
It displayed 242 days which is the equivalent of 1year only.

On viewing this i started to do some more investigation about DELL's product being sold in Mauritius; apparently there are several distributors which are LEAL,Harel mallac & another one which i don't have the right name.

I was very upset about this bad buying issue; i started to chase those distributors and got same answer from both LEAL & Harel mallac; my newly bought laptop was sold by the other one and is currently selling out products with only 1year warranty but advertising 5years.

WTF!!!
We pay for shit?
The brand value has no more importance?
They just want to get our money without giving the stated guarantees & warranty!

Dear friends, i have already been cornered and have had to pay once more for a warranty upgrade at another seller; Please verify your product thoroughly using your SERVICE TAG when buying a DELL product!

See link below:
'dellservicetag.com'

Thanks & take note,

Contact Dell and tell them what happened to you. Retailers cannot sell branded products without authorisation from the parent company and if the place where you bought your laptop is affiliated with Dell, then Dell will have to honour the 5 year warranty period.

Wow, thanks so much for sharing this we need more people to come forward with cases like these so we can boycott them. Also I would urge people to read all the small print and ask the same questions a few times before proceeding. It's such a shame you can't get your money back, in the UK you would get a full refund as they mis-sold you the product.

I believe the money can be returned as we have a common law in Mauritius and we are a common wealth country. But finding trustworthy people is another issue.

Really, my friend bought a mobile phone that had a years warranty, it broke within a month, he wanted his money back so he could buy a better one (by adding more money to the refund amount) and the shop refused. They said that he wouldn't get his money back, they would either replace it with another brand new phone or they would send it off for repair, he was stuck and got his faulty phone swapped for a brand new one instead.

Hey thanks! Had someone who faced a situation similar of yours! She bought hers at some VJ Computers! Well, they will definitely pay for not being honest!

These kinds of companies, after years of fooling people, they end up in closing down due to bankruptcy of whatsoever reason! As you all know the faith of the used to be Cyber-rite Co. Ltd

Oh dear to inform any consumer protective body is great but unfortunately the time to get this solve through this tons of procedures makes you frankly easily change your idea of doing so. It's a well-known shop in rose-hill.

The fact is that one retailer can buy with one year warranty from DELL & sell at 5 years as the difference as they say ''would be covered'' by the selling outlet.

Apparently from what i have succeeded to get as information there is only the first two distributors who are selling the ''real'' 5 years warranty entitlement.

I have been caught due to lack of awareness on what to verify when buying such products but i wanted to let people know what to do so as to prevent such fraudulent selling to continue more and more...

The Law can help you even if it's so lame and slow. Thanks for warning us though.
