My friend has just finished his SC exams and would like a basic computer training course during the holidays. What course do you advise me to tell him?

I'd say go for the IC3 (The Internet and Computing Core Certification) which is internationally recognised. You get to learn about computer hardware & software, word processing, spreadsheet, presentation programs and using the internet. It's an all in one package ideal for someone new to ICT. You will need to buy an IC3 Training Card from a Post Office or any Winners Supermarket and that costs Rs750, a bargain if you ask me!

You will be offered 45 hours of training and a certificate of attendance will be awarded on completion. The courses are run in State Secondary Schools around the island, so you won't need to travel a lot.

See this link for more information about the IC3 programme.

A Basic IT Course at Datamatics costs Rs4000 for 32 hours of training in Word, Excel, Access, Internet & Email. I don't think I need to say anything else...

Did you read the link in my answer?

IC3 Certification by Certiport Inc. (USA) is also available through online examinations conducted at our testing centre, the University of Mauritius.

Basic means Word Processing, database and presentation then why not go to Datamatics. It's got branches all over Mauritius.

If you tell me a location then I can suggest more!

Else, for a highly recognised institution try Whitefield (Curepipe).
