Is there a way to find the best route for your journey by bus in Mauritius? Many people rely on asking a friend or relative or even the bus conductor but surely there must be an easier and more reliable way, right?

Does anyone know any?

There's an online mauritian bus route finder here : http://www.mauritius-buses.com

You just have to enter where you're travelling from (origin) and where you're going to (destination) and it will give you the best route for your journey. It is calculated by using the shortest travelling time as well as the higher frequency of buses which means that you wouldn't have to wait a long time for a bus connection.

The website will also list the applicable fares as well though I'm not sure how accurate it is. The only problem is that not all bus stops are listed mainly because bus stops in Mauritius do not have a unique name to enable easy computation but going to main areas is not going to be a problem.

The data for the route finder has been taken from the bus service information provided on the gov.mu website (www.gov.mu/portal/goc/mpi/file/busm3.doc), so it should be fairly accurate.
