We've got family in the UK, France, Australia, Canada and USA and we try to stay in touch with the relatives at least once in a month. Most of the time they call us because they use prepaid cards which tend to be a lot cheaper than the rates in Mauritius but we'd like to be able to call them without thinking about the figure on the phone bills afterwards.

So what's the best way to make those phone calls to people from abroad?

Have you tried the calling through the Orange Livebox? As you can see, there is a phone line under the livebox. You need to activate it first.

It is called Second Phone Line. I would recommend you to contact Orange about this activation. And I am confident that the costs will be less.

It will be even less if the people abroad have activated their Second Line also. It works as as VoIP.

Also, check this out: http://www.outremer-telecom.mu/main.htm

France, Royaume-Uni, Australie Rs. 5.20 Rs. 5.80
Canada, USA Rs. 5.40 Rs. 6.00

Australie Rs 5,75 Rs 8 Rs 5,75 Rs 5,5 Rs 5,5
Australie (vers un mobile) Rs 8,5 Rs 10 Rs 8,5 Rs 8,5 Rs 8,5

I need to look for this second phone line and get in touch with Orange to find out about the costs. Thanks for the heads up!

If you want free then why not Skype, Messenger or Facebook chat but if you want actual phone calls then Voip is the cheapest I have found.
