The indian Ocean Dipole occurs in the Indian Ocean and consists of two poles:

The east pole which is situated near Sumatra, Indonesia. The west pole sits in the western Indian Ocean.

Also known as indian nino, it is an irregular oscillation of sea-surface temperatures in which the western Indian Ocean becomes alternately warmer and then colder than the eastern part of the ocea

Recently the IOD, went through a positive phase thus more rainfall in Kenya, Ethiopia and Tanzania. According to BBC, heavy rainfalls caused death of 28 people.

How does the IOD affect the various indian ocean islands ?
