Hi here, I am Synca, this is my first post here on Clever Dodo. I am very happy to discover this little place.

This first post is addressed to our Muslim friends particularly, as I have very specific interrogations in mind right now.

I would like to know what are the steps of an Islamic marriage in Mauritius.
The locality is important as I know there are slightly different manners from one country to another.

I am very interested in the name of each rituals and prayers and also what are their rules, how they are performed, by whom, etc.

When I asked my friends they could tell me the following :

  1. Mawlud prayer
  2. Mehendi
  3. Nikah
  4. Chawtari

Is this list exhaustive according to your own experience? Also if you have more information about how are performed all these steps, which members of the families are present, I would be glad to learn more from you.

Thank you for reading, may you have a delightful day.

Mawlud is not apryer, but purely invented from India.
mehendi also from india.
nikah is compulsory and only way to be considered married.
chawtari is not compulsory.

Hey hello nizbooboo,
Thank you for your answers that's appreciated.
Now I have this question : is Nikah a ceremony where only males are allowed to attend?
Or both the groom and bride need to attend ?

Have something to say?
