I'd probably say young Mauritian women should pursue their education and not succumb to old traditions of letting the son(s) of the house achieve academically. Although it's becoming a bit rarer these days, I still know people who have the mentality their daughters should drop from school to give better opportunities to the boys, especially if finance is a problem. The parents tend to think the daughter will marry off someday (actually get them married early) and the husband will provide for them.
As an independent woman, who can stand on your legs, you will have much more respect for yourself and will be able to cope better should any difficulty arise.
So my advice is to try your best to go the furthest you can academically.
