Welcome to Clever Dodo Mike! Good to see you here :)

I haven't seen the USB turntable being sold in Mauritius and I think you'll get a better deal buying it online. On eBay you can get the ion TTUSB MP3 Turntable Vinyl Record Converter for around Rs1500 (new one that is). Are you registered with ebay and paypal?

Otherwise you can connect directly to your PC audio input if you have a good sound card and download some free audio conversion software to do the trick for you.

Let me know what you think is best.

Thanks, yes I am registered with Paypal. I wanted to avoid the administrative problems with customs but if no other solution will have to order externally.

Is it really that bad to get something ordered from abroad through customs?

I guess not if you have a courier service clear it for you.

Rather than buying the equipment to do it yourself, why not see if a friend/relative already has the kit and ask them to do it for you. Or you can enquire in a studio to see how much they charge for such a service. It might be cheaper to do it this way unless you have loads of vinyl records to convert.

OK good suggestion, I never thought about that, there could be studio service ready to do the job. I will have to check around/enquire about services.

Mike, as you are new to Clever Dodo, it would be handy if you could read these 2 bits of information:

http://cleverdodo.mu/faq (FAQ)
http://cleverdodo.mu/please-read-this-be... (Guide on asking/answering questions)

I've converted your 2 answers into comments because they were comments to the answers given. The system we use here is quite different but once you understand it, it's really easy.

In case you didn't know, if you click on the country flags at the top of the site, it takes you to questions in french and creole. I'd recommend taking a look at the creole section as i'm sure you'll be amused :)

Let me know if you have any difficulty using the site or need any help.
