It's not illegal because the Bank of Mauritius issues a limited number of these coins from time to time. Currently we have:
- Rs200 Silver Coin to Commemorate the 40th Anniversary of BoM
- Rs100 Silver Coin to Commemorate the Centenary of the Arrival of Mahatma Gandhi in Mauritius
- 150th Anniversary of the Mauritius Chamber of Commerce & Industry Silver Coin
- Tenth Anniversary of the Independence of Mauritius
- Golden Wedding Anniversary Silver Coin
They also release platinum and gold versions of coins too.
I just realised I answered assuming you were referring to Mauritius Silver Coins - did you mean that or silver coins from another country?
I never knew BOM sells these coins
the price is a bit high though
Well it's mostly for collectors I suppose, that's why they are labelled as limited editions.
Yes i was going to buy that online. So i was wondering if the custom officer would seize the coins assuming it be like smuggling. Do you know anything about that??
I'm not sure about coins from another country. Best thing to do before you buy them is to give the Parcel Office in Port-Louis a quick call to find out.
No, i guess not
because ive never heard of such laws, including about melting it
